Night With Damita Jo.
I would be so disrespectful if I didn't discuss our evening with Miss Janet Jackson last evening, down here in the South Beach hood at the Jackie Gleason Theater. Hands down it was off the chi-zzane! The crowd was super thick which made it even cooler because the venue was small, so it was ultimate intimate. One thing I would say, I've never been at a concert where I looked around and EVERYBODY was standing up including the upper deck. Dancing , singing, just a whale of a night.
So u may ask, does Janet still have it? Boy, I captured some great moments on our phone and may attempt to put some of them in an upcoming blog. Janet's the ultimate, and a ever becoming extinct type of performer. In that she got LOOSE dancing, I thought she was just gonna sit on a stool and sing, but this gal was moving like I've never seen. Few of our highlights:
- Janet's voice was there, and she sung just about all of her #1 hits.
- Her dancing, 'pecially on " If ", and all her dance songs
- The crowd knowing and singing the lyrics to these jams. U know I got loose.
- A Miami diverse crowd, all races, sexualities, and ages
- "That's The Way Love Goes" is what took the concert to another level. I think that's her most popular song.
- There is not one bad seat at The Jackie Gleason Theater, one of my all-time venues.
- Janet sung my song, "Come Back To Me", which I almost passed out on!
- All of the songs and dance moves were just like the albums and videos! She hit 'em all on point!
- Unforgettable interlude where they showed a few of Janet's acting career clips including: Good Times episode where she got burnt by her mother by the infamous iron (Of Course I had to yell, "Run Penny!!" Lol!!), also episode of Different Strokes which got me almost crying cuz it's been so long since I seen Charmene and Wills together; Also, Poetic Justice clip with Tupac ("Pu-nah-nah!"; And a clip from Why Did I Get Married Too where she was tearing up her house with a golf club!
Janet's my favorite female artist and it was a blessing to see her. Plus, as she was talking to the crowd and acting, you saw that ultimate swag, where she was really doing something she loves (Make the heart symbol with both hands now.) Confident, energetic, surprising, fun, classic, once in a lifetime...me and my brother talk about the recognition of greatness and how we are in a mist where some of the best to ever do their craft are fading away. Appreciate this stuff, because it won't be around forever...and this night cemented in my heart that...she's in the conversation of the best to have ever done it. And as I like to say, "It ain't even close!"
Austino.
